BIO

After receiving her BFA in graphic design from Rhode Island School of Design, Susan worked in publishing and in corporate print design for clients such as Merrill Lynch, Bank of New York, Texaco, Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Carnegie Hall. Mid-career, she studied painting, drawing, and ceramics in order to better understand the Bauhaus principle of “form meets function.” No matter what the medium, Susan is keenly aware of structure, color and the context of the message.

“Susan has a unique ability to create the look and feel of a web site but also understands or writes much of the underlying source code. She is both left- and right-brained.” For those who are interested, she built this site with HTML, CSS, a jQuery Cycle Plugin, and a Spry photo gallery. She has begun to explore Javascript, web site interactivity and multimedia. For JS examples, take a look at this site itself and also the experimental site: The Corvid Authority (not optimized for Internet Explorer). Contact Susan directly for examples of multimedia.

Favorite quote by Paul Rand, designer of the IBM logo: “Design is the method of putting form and content together. Design, just as art, has multiple definitions, there is no single definition. Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.”
